Jilek, Sonja

Sonja Jilek studied archaeology and history in Vienna being employed as a researcher at the Institute for History, Vienna University. As archaeologist she worked and published on various Roman sites in Austria, Turkey and Jordan. Since 2000 she is actively involved in the preparation and implementation of the transnational UNESCO World Heritage Site “Frontiers of the Roman Empire”; at first by managing the international cooperation among heritage experts and archaeologists for the Scottish heritage board “Historic Scotland” in the UK and from 2008 onwards concentrating on the expansion of this World Heritage Site into the Danube countries. For her institution she coordinated two EU projects on the “Danube Limes” supported by ERDF funds in the Central and Southeast Programmes.
