The main themes of the Slovak EUSDR Presidency are (among others) climate change and protection ofbiodiversity & digitalization and innovation ecosystems. The 8th Danube Participation Day will concentrate on links between digitalization and participation and on the challenges coming out of digitalisation in our societies.

One of the priorities of the 8thDanube Participation Day in 2021 and the Slovak Presidency 2021 is an even stronger active engagement of the youth. This year we have the possibility of having a Youth Event related to the next annual forum.

Guidance Paper for Youth Participation The Guidance Paper for Youth Participationaims at providing guidance to youth and launching a dialogue on youth participation by discussing the following questions on youth involvement in the EU Danube Strategy (EUSDR): WHY, HOW, and WHAT? In doing so, the Guidance Paper is pointing out WHY bothyoung people and established EUSDR stakeholders are benefitting from working together. Furthermore, the Guidance Paper sheds light on HOW stakeholders in the Danube Region can contribute to enhance youth participation by addressing the key factors: Capacity building –Communication –Cooperation. Finally, the Guidance Paper seeks to highlight WHAT has been done and could be done in the future to strengthen youth participation in the Danube Region.

Danube Youth Network (DYN) The Danube Youth Network (DYN) is the synergic project of organizations within the Danube region to develop a sustainable, resilient, open, accessible, and self-organized network with the main focus on youth participation, sustainability, empowerment and social inclusion. DYN’saim is to be effectively managed by young professionals with different backgrounds through a transparent bottom-up process supporting, connecting and building capacities of youth from the Danube Region. The project receives financial support by State Ministry of Baden-Württemberg. #DanubeYouth

We gladly announce that the 7th Danube Participation Day will take place ONLINE on 21 October 2020 | 10.00 – 14.00 CET . Please save the date.

The Danube Participation Day 2020 will present the first draft of the Guidance Paper for Youth Participation in the Danube Region. Against this background, participants will have the opportunity to exchange on possible ways forward in order to boost cooperation and participation of young people and youth initiatives. In doing so, the Danube Participation Day wants to provide a platform to raise awareness of valuable contributions from existing youth initiatives in the region and taking initial steps forward to acknowledge and involve youth in the Danube Region.

With this year`s Danube Participation Day, we want to continue the efforts from the conference in 2019 that marked the kick-off for the draft of the guidance paper.

Due to the current COVID-19 pandemic the Danube Participation Day will be a virtual event.

Presentations and reports

On this section of the website we will be sharing with you the presentations and reports of the 7th Danube Participation Day.

The main outcomes of the conference were:

  • Entrust an increasing number of young people with tasks under the EUSDR (WG 1)

  • Youth Participation Day is needed (WG 1)

  • Media literacy and critical thinking is crucial (WG 3)

  • Digital democracy; rapid digitalisation, civic engagement and political participation are also possible online (WG 3)

  • There is a lack of real possibilities to speak up, contribute and co-decide (WG 4)

  • CS is feels to be cut-off from decision makers due to anti COVID-19 restrictions (WG 6)

  • COVID 19 hindered NPDs as well as other communication and participation channels (often, used as an excuse) (WG 6)

  • PA 10 organize a D-LAP meeting focused on participation in COVID times (WG 6)

  • There is a need for some form of guidance support (mentoring, coaching, advising, etc.) to the youth in order to get oriented into the vast ocean of opportunities provided within the EU and the Danube region (WG 7)

Danube Participation Day

The Danube Participation Days are the annual platform for stakeholders in the Danube Region for participatory governance in the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR). The conference – that is held back to back with the EUSDR Annual Forum - offers the opportunity to exchange, network and to further develop ideas and projects on participatory governance in the Danube Region. The 8th Danube Participation Day is a side event of the 10th EUSDR Annual Forum hosted by the Slovak EUSDR Presidency.

Priority Area 10 “Institutional Capacity and Cooperation” (PA 10) of the EU Danube Strategy

Priority Area 10 (PA 10) of the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR) aims at stepping up institutional capacity and cooperation. In accordance with the EUSDR Action Plan, Priority Area 10 addresses institutional capacity-building at local, regional and national level, involvement of civil society in public governance, increasing local development and better spending as well as increasing absorption rates of EU funds.

Danube Civil Society Forum (DCSF)

The Danube Civil Society Forum (DCSF) is the platform for civil society dialogue and networking in the Danube basin under the EU Strategy for the Danube Region (EUSDR). It functions as the interface for structured consultations between civil society and public and private authorities on the regional, national and EU level as well as to international and intergovernmental organisations active in the region.

The Danube Civil Society Forum is dedicated to support civil society organisations in the Danube basin. It aims to promote and enhance civil society participation and networking in the framework of the European Union Strategy for the Danube Region.
