Waters 2040: Experten diskutieren nachhaltige Wasserwirtschaft im Donauraum

Within the framework of the 3rd Austrian Participation Day: Waters 2040, international experts and representatives from 21 countries met to discuss the urgent challenges of water management in the Danube basin due to climate change.

Minister for environment Leonore Gewessler emphasized the need to translate scientific findings into political action. This is the only way to counter the consequences of climate change.

A sustainable strategy for dealing with water and the water cycle was set as a central goal. The need to involve directly affected stakeholders, the scientific community and civil society in the development of future strategies was also highlighted.

  • Dealing with extreme events and climate change

  • Promoting biodiversity and water quality

  • Improving energy and shipping; and

  • Citizen participation
